But often, pregnant women suffer from acne problems.

During pregnancy, there are a series of changes in body hormones, including androgens that triggers acne. Although you will never control the hormonal changes in your body, you can take steps that can help prevent and treat your acne.

Try following these tips given by Modern Mom:

Step 1
Wash your face every morning and afternoon with a mild soap that does not contain a lot of fragrance and additives. Pregnancy hormones can cause increased oil production, so always keep your face clean.

Routine face washing can help prevent acne. Using room temperature water is better than warm water. Avoid harsh exfoliants that can irritate your skin.

Step 2
Pat your face with a dry and clean towel. Then put a smear of light facial moisturizing cream. Using a moisturizer can help prevent skin produces excess oil.

Step 3
Change your makeup routine. Use make-up only at certain times only, and only if it is really necessary. Choose oil-free makeup that is safe to use, does not clog pores and use it sparingly. Avoid daily use of makeup only to cover acne, as some cosmetics can make it worse.

Step 4
Avoid touching your face with your hands. It is important to keep your face free of excess oils and bacteria that cause acne from outside sources.

Tie your hair if it feels greasy, especially if you use hair products that can irritate your skin. Wash your pillowcase regularly with hypoallergenic detergent. Clean your phone with an antibacterial cleanser. All these measures can help reduce oil production in the skin.

Step 5
Stay hydrated and eat a diet high in fresh fruits and vegetables to provide the necessary nutrients and moisturize the skin clean and healthy. Avoid consumption of fried foods and chocolate because it can cause acne. Consumption of nutritious foods will be better and able to help you maintain a healthy skin.

Step 6
See your doctor if the steps above does not help clean up and prevent your acne. Some prescription topical antibiotics and over-the-counter benzoyl peroxide treatments may help. Your doctor will know what medicines are safe to consume during pregnancy.

Pregnancy is a joyous but stressful journey of pregnancy stages in an average woman’s life. Pregnancy is an individual experience and each woman reacts differently. Staying fit and healthy should be your goal throughout the rapidly changing stages of pregnancy during your journey to motherhood. The nine months of pregnancy are customarily divided into three trimesters, of three month each. Each stage of pregnancy has an individual but predictable character with its unique effects on both the mother and the baby’s development.

The Distinct Pregnancy Stages

It is very important for a woman to know and respect the limitations of the body and the growing fetus during her pregnancy. Good diet, light exercise, positive attitude and adequate relaxation should become a part of your daily routine for the birth of a healthy and happy baby. The three distinct pregnancy stages or trimesters are the distinct stages of baby’s growth in the womb.

The first trimester is the start of pregnancy. Hormonal changes during the first three months of pregnancy will increase fatigue, nausea, bowel movements, excessive urination and heightened emotional sensitivity. Do not be too shocked or frightened by these changes, just deal with them in a most sensible ways to overcome them. Guard against any infections and sickness to protect your baby’s health.

The second pregnancy stage is called the second trimester. Your body starts showing the ‘baby bump’ and you can feel the baby’s movement. Initial fatigue and nausea abates and you develop the ‘bloom’ of pregnancy with a general glow of wellbeing. Keep a meticulous routine of personal hygiene, and take adequate calcium for the growth of baby’s skeletal system.

The third pregnancy stage is the last trimester, as baby completes its growth. As the belly grows you feel more tired, so take adequate rest and diet to ensure proper oxygen and nutrients to the baby. Avoid lifting heavy weights and discomfort of any kind. Soon your baby will be born. This last stage of pregnancy culminates in labor. The three stages of labor are – the dilation of the cervix, the delivery of the baby and the delivery of the placenta.

Recognizing The Start Of Labor

Some of the signs and symptoms of labor are: uterine contractions, period-like cramps, backache, diarrhea, breaking of waters and dilation of the cervix. As the contraction become painful and intense, the cervix dilates to about 10cm and you have an intense desire to push. There is burning and pain as baby’s head emerges from the vaginal canal, and finally the baby slips out followed by placenta. Do not be embarrassed by bowel motion, as it is common during this pregnancy stage of labor.

While you are experiencing the varied joys of pregnancy, share the events and feelings with your partner to make him feel the joys of impending fatherhood during your varied pregnancy stages.

The three distinct stages or trimesters that a woman has to go through during the nine-month period of pregnancy have a direct bearing on both the mother and the baby. Each pregnancy stage lasts for three months and has different emotional and physical implications.

The Three Stages of Pregnancy

Stage 1: First Trimester

The first trimester is associated with strong emotions, ranging from over excitement to shock. It is not uncommon for women to complain of nausea and fatigue during this stage. Other frequent complaints are morning sickness, a loss of energy, increased weight, changes in breast size etc. More significantly, missing menstrual cycles, which are clearly indicative of pregnancy, occur during this pregnancy stage. Since the embryo begins to develop around this time, any ignorance can lead to birth defects.

Stage 2: Second Trimester

During the second pregnancy stage, the effects on pregnancy are clearly visible externally as well as internally. Apart from the belly bulging out, there are changes in skin color and texture on the face as well. Internal changes include the first baby movements, swelling of the uterus and the inability ability to digest certain foods as the process of digestion slows down.

Stage 3: Third Trimester

The third pregnancy stage is characterized by anxiety, about the nature of delivery and impatience of getting over with it, after carrying the baby for a long period of six months! The growth in baby size in the body can result in back pain, cramping, lack of energy, reduced control over bladder functions, and even an out-of-breath feeling. No wonder, there is overwhelming relief at giving birth, but in some cases, post partum depression may also set in because of the void created as a result of being accustomed to that another person grow within.

Labor is the last phase of the third pregnancy stage, when the delivery actually takes place. There are varied symptoms of labor- cramps, backache, and diarrhea and last but not the least, contractions. The important thing to remember is that once the contractions are five minutes apart or the waters break or if one starts bleeding from the vagina; one should head for the hospital immediately.

Post Pregnancy Period

Once the baby is born, a majority of the symptoms associated with pregnancy subside. However many women continue to struggle to fight the weight gained during pregnancy.

Pregnancy is one of the most wonderful aspects of a woman life during which proper pregnancy week by week monitoring and care should be given to the expected changes during each pregnancy stage. This will make the whole experience can be more joyous and less stressful.

There are three pregnancy stages, which are called trimesters. Each stage lasts about three months. During each of these stages, the mother-to-be experiences new changes in her body as the baby grows and develops inside the womb. One of the major changes is that your belly expands and your emotions are like a roller coaster. You will probably cry for no apparent reason, so that your partner feels as if he has to tiptoe around you. You will probably be very fearful about what is going to happen to your body and of course you will have fears about the health of the baby. These are natural emotions that every pregnant woman experiences and should not be cause for alarm.

During the first stage of pregnancy, which lasts until about the 12th week, you will have to learn about being pregnant. This is when you will start to feel more tired than usual and have to take frequent naps. You will also start making frequent trips to the bathroom because the baby growing in the uterus places more pressure on your bladder. Morning sickness is a symptom of this stage when you feel nauseated in the morning or at various times of the day. The smells of cooking could make you feel sick and many women actually lose weight during this stage. Eating plain crackers helps to alleviate the feeling of nausea, but if you are actually throwing up a lot of the time, your doctor can give you suggestions as what to do. Some of the other changes you will experience during this stage include decreased interest in lovemaking, breast tenderness, expanding belly, and an increase in your basal temperature.

It is during the second stage of your pregnancy that you will start to look pregnant with a growing belly. The nausea and fatigue start to decline during these weeks and you will start to take an increased interest in sexual activity. The sexual organs and breasts have increased bloodflow, which will make them more sensitive. The baby starts to move during the fourth month and this is an exciting time for mothers-to-be as it makes the pregnancy more real for them. The first ultrasound usually occurs about the 18th or 19th week and it is them you can see the life that is growing inside you. Some of the physical changes you will notice in your body during this stage include milk leaking from your breasts on times and pressure on the lower parts of your body, which could result in haemorrhoids or varicose veins. When you visit your doctor, you will be able to hear the baby`s heartbeat.

The last stage of pregnancy is the third trimester. You will probably feel uncomfortable because your body is larger. This is especially true of it is during the hot weather of the summer. You will become impatient and want the baby to be born as soon as possible. You will start to feel excited about the baby and start nesting, which refers to making a room in your home for the baby and shopping for baby clothing. This is probably the most uncomfortable stage as you will experience backache and leg cramps and the need to urinate increases. During this time you will likely experience false labor, called Braxton-Hicks contractions, which are painless contractions of the uterus as it moves the baby into the birth canal. Sometimes, these contractions can be quite painful, but they usually subside after a very short time.

There are three pregnancy stages called trimesters. Each one lasts for about three months of the pregnancy and involves bringing new changes to your body, the development of the baby and your relationships with your partner and those around you. It is important to have an understanding of what to expect in each of these stages so that you will not become unnecessarily stressed when they occur. The changes involve your emotions as well as the shape of your body and your level of comfort.

The sexual relationship between partners undergoes a change during these stages as well. The first trimester is often a traumatic experience for both partners with the morning sickness, extreme tiredness and general emotional changes, which often results in a decrease in lovemaking. This usually returns to normal in the second trimester. During the third trimester, with your body expanding quite quickly, you may have to find more comfortable positions in order to show your love for one another and sate your sexual desires.

The first trimester lasts for about twelve weeks. The increase in your hormones will cause you some discomfort with feelings of nausea. You may become ill when you see or smell some of your favourite foods and morning sickness is one of the early signs. When you wake in the morning and get out of bed, you may have to run to the washroom to throw up. Some women experience this later in the day and in some cases it is quite extreme. Usually it does abate by the end of the first three months.

In addition to not having any menstrual periods, you will notice that your breasts are tender and seem to enlarge. You will not notice any major increase in the size of your belly, but by the end of the first trimester, the waistbands may feel a little tighter than normal. You will feel tired most of the time and have to take naps during the day or early evening. Another consequence of this early stage of pregnancy is an increase in the frequency of urinating, which means more trips to the bathroom.

Your pregnancy will start to show during the second trimester. The riskiest period for a miscarriage is over and you can start to relax. You will experience more energy during this time and be able to do most of your normal activities. Due to the increased blood flow to the breasts and genitals, you will have an increased interest in sexual activity. You will start to feel the baby moving inside and have your first ultrasound during this time. This will make the pregnancy seem more real to you.

This is the stage of pregnancy when your uterus will start to enlarge as the baby starts to grow and develop more fully. This also puts more pressure on the blood vessels, often causing your blood pressure to rise. There is also more pressure on the ligaments and muscles of your lower body, resulting in back and leg pain.

The final stage of pregnancy, the third trimester, is the time for you to start planning for the baby if you haven’t already done so. All of the baby organs are developed and this is a time for waiting for the baby to grow. Towards the end of this stage, you will experience a nesting attitude in which you want to make sure you have everything ready for the new arrival. You also need to get more rest at this time to prepare your body for the upcoming event.

Each pregnancy is unique. So is the reaction of each woman to different pregnancy stages. The truth is: the more informed you will be regarding pregnancy trimesters, the less fearful your journey towards motherhood will be.

Pregnancy stages are divided into a group of three months each known as trimesters. Thus, there are three trimesters in the entire nine-month span. Each trimester has its unique characteristics with regards to the changes occurring in the body and in the development process of the fetus.

The First Trimester

This marks the commencement of pregnancy. Your body undergoes tremendous changes due to the upheaval of hormones. Thus, you experience nausea, fatigue, altered bowel movements, frequent urination, and hypersensitivity. So, don’t blame yourself if you get irritated by petty matters; blame it on your hormones. Most of the women get horrified by such symptoms; however, they are just a passing phase. You will soon learn to cope with them.

The Second Trimester

This is the pregnancy stage when your belly starts showing. Symptoms like nausea and fatigue become mild and your face shows the glow of good news. Continue taking a nutritious diet and follow the exercise regime as recommended by your doctor. Be particular about your calcium intake for the development of your baby’s bones. Personal hygiene should be your topmost priority.

The Third Trimester

This is the baby stage of pregnancy. Your baby is fully developed and ready to come out and start its own life. Your belly will enlarge further. You might experience discomfort while sleeping on your back. This is the time to take adequate rest and refrain from doing any strenuous physical activity such as lifting heavy objects. As you approach the end of third trimester, you will start getting labor pains.

There are two types of labor – false and true. The former is also known as Braxton Hicks contractions. These contractions go away as soon as you do some physical activity or take deep breathes.

Labor is further divided into three stages. In the first stage, the cervix dilates. In the second stage, your baby is born. And finally the placenta is expelled.

How To Know You Are About To Deliver…

The most common signs of labor are cramps that are similar to one you get during your periods, contractions of the uterus, pain in the back, diarrhea, water breaks, and cervix dilation. As the contractions get intense, the dilation to cervix extends to 10 cm. You feel a strong urge to push. As the baby’s head comes out from the vaginal canal, you experience a burning sensation and intense pain. Finally, your bundle of joy slides out, after which comes the placenta. During this time, you might also get bowel movement, which is a common phenomenon during delivery.

So, now that you are aware of what actually happens in the entire pregnancy period, there is no need to harbor worries. Simply take each day with positively. You have to learn and face all the pregnancy stages with high spirit. Remember, a happy mother delivers a happy baby!

 Pre-natal treatment

Pregnancy can be one of the most fulfilling times in a woman’s life. The joy of bringing another human being into the world creates a tremendous feeling of contentment and anticipation, but it is also a time of great physical and emotional upheaval. So the Spa at Chiva-Som has designed a range of new treatments to help pre and postnatal guests enjoy a secure and tranquil experience.

Together with exercise, good diet and rest, these treatments can play an important role in helping you cope with the stresses of nine months of pregnancy and postnatal recovery.

The Pre and Post Natal Body Treatment combines soothing massage with the therapeutic benefits of E’SPA products, and has been carefully designed to improve the tonicity of the skin. It’s performed on a bed designed for comfort and safety during pregnancy.

After deep skin cleansing and a gentle body polish, you will have a luxurious body massage with E’SPA’s specially developed Nourishing Body Oil. Some essential oils such as basil and marjoram should be avoided during pregnancy, so the silky Nourishing Body Oil is based on Jojoba, blended with Calendula, Grape Seed and Sweet Almond Oil.

We then envelop your body in warm Marine Mud to nourish the skin, and end with a deep acupressure point scalp massage.

The Spa at Chiva-Som offers many other treatments for pregnant and nursing mothers. These include Floatation, which induces a deep state of mental relaxation and helps to eliminate stress and tension.

With Oriental Foot Massage you recline in the Chiva-Som Music Therapy chairs as the therapist works reflex points in the feet and ankles to balance the entire body, stimulate the circulatory system and alleviate muscle tension.

For ultimate pampering, try the Bath Of Chiva, performed in the candlelit luxury of your own room as tension is soaked away in a hydrating milk bath with rose petals and chamomile flowers.

Please ask at reception for more details of all these treatments.

Headaches during pregnancy are very challenging as over the counter pain killers are not recommended. Read on to see what you can do to relieve the pain from your headaches during pregnancy.

First of all let’s address why some pregnant women suffer from headaches during pregnancy. Within the first 12 weeks of pregnancy the surging hormones play a part in the development of pregnancy headaches. The 40% increase in blood volume that occurs during pregnancy increases pressure within the blood vessels and this itself can cause pregnancy headaches. Headaches during the last month of pregnancy may also be caused by a condition called preeclampsia, which is associated with high blood pressure, swelling and protein in the urine.

It is normal to have headaches during pregnancy because of the above reasons plus the following:

Stress

Lack of sleep

Vomiting

Low blood sugar

Dehydration

Caffeine withdrawal

Nicotine withdrawal

Poor posture

Pregnancy related vision changes

What you can do to ease your pregnancy headaches:

Reduce stress.

Get more sleep.

Treat your early morning sickness.

Eat regularly to avoid low blood sugar levels.

Drink adequate amounts of high quality water.

Get chiropractic adjustments and advice to correct your posture.

Avoid over the counter medication especially during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.

Consult a homeopath or an acupuncturist for treatments to relieve your pain.

Pregnancy headaches are sometimes relieved with either hot or cold compress around your forehead and on the back of your neck.

Have someone massage your shoulders and neck during acute pregnancy headaches.

Rest in a dark room and practice deep relaxation breathing.

Relaxing in a warm bath or shower sometimes reduces the stress and tension.

The fruit mangosteen is well known to support every system in the body. It is all natural and can relieve and prevent pregnancy headaches.

You tried all the above and you still have a pregnancy headache:

At this point it would be appropriate to call your doctor or midwife for advice.

Have your eyesight checked as you may need glasses or a change in glasses.

If you experience any of these symptoms below with a headache call your physician or midwife immediately as these are signs of a severe pregnancy complication called pre-eclampsia:

Blurred vision

Right sided abdomen pain

Swollen hands and face

Sudden weight gain

Feeling very agitated or restless

Pregnancy headaches can be very painful and very frustrating, as it is not recommended that you use over the counter medication during pregnancy. I have assisted pregnant women in the past to make their headaches a little more manageable or made them go away with a one on one coaching-healing phone sessions.

Many of my pregnant clients have experienced improvement of their pregnancy headaches by taking mangosteen juice. Mangosteen is present in different quantities in different products.
This week I talk about feeling the baby move and how it is the size of a carrot. Music: “One World” by Laura Reed & Deep Pocket.
Help answer the question about pregnancy by week
I missed my period by a week but pregnancy tests come back negative….What could be wrong with me?
I am 25 and have always had a very regular period. The most my period has ever been off is about 2 days other than that it is very timely. I have had nothing out of the ordinary taking place in my life this past month (so no extra stress, illness, etc.). I have never missed a period before. I have taken two pregnancy tests this week (one earlier right after my missed period and one today-a week after) and both came back negative. I used the First Response test both times. Could I possilby be pregnant and the test is not registering enough Hcg or what else could be wrong? I have had one ovarian cyst in my life a couple years ago that I had removed. I am not on any contraceptives. I am nervous not because I don't want to have a child but because of what else could possibly be wrong. Any ideas?
