Chemotherapy, in its most general sense, refers to treatment of disease by chemicals that kill cells, specifically those of micro-organisms or cancer. Chemotherapy works by destroying cancer cells; unfortunately, it cannot tell the difference between a cancer cell and some healthy cells. Chemotherapy may be given in many ways. There seems to be a growing trend of cancer remission in people who were treated previously using conventional treatments and declared cancer free. There were two such recent occurrences that grabbed the media attention in the US. First was an announcement made by Elizabeth Edwards, wife of Presidential candidate John Edwards, that her breast cancer had recurred and was in stage 4 and now considered treatable, but not curable.
